Quaint, cosy and soulful…. A small, very comfortable veranda greets you as you stop in front of this little gem. The magnificent Swartberg mountains towers over De Rust not so far off and on the day of my visit I could still clearly see the snow on the mountain. I can imagine lounging my early mornings or late afternoons away on a snug bench or even a hammock (yes, I would easily fit a hammock in!). Once you enter the through the front door old world charm greets you in magnificent glory as the house is kept in immaculate condition. On each side of the short passage a door leads you to a bedroom, comfortable yet old world-ish. Enter through into the living room and, WOW!!The living room is absolutely NOT what you would have expected at all. Open plan yet cosy, small yet spacious. An open invitation to spend days in comfort with a glass of wine debating about issues of the heart. The dining room and lounge has been opened up to allow one very comfortable living space. A very big and spacious bathroom leads from this area on the one side and on the other a bright, sunny and classy main bedroom wink through an open door. Another surprise, yet again. I was amazed at all the warmth and sun in this bedroom and would add a little patio to spend early mornings having my first coffee outside, saying good morning to the majestic old giant not so far off. The kitchen at the back of the house is an eccentric combination of old-world charm and modern comfort. The décor is artsy and made me smile just thinking of it. I just love how the owners combined the two worlds so successfully together. The yard is small and easy to maintain. And on the side of the property is a little bachelor flat with everything you need, complete with a tiny little stoep. A welcome additional income. This is the perfect little spot for a couple who want to retire in a picturesque little town, away from the hustle or bustle, yet close enough to bigger cities (about an hour`s drive) OR The young couple wanting to live a different life OR The artist, the writer or painter or philosopher, and I can easily imagine me writing my book in a place like this one day when I am ready. This little place has soul and needs an owner who will understand and nurture it. Someone who will love the combined qualities of old and new. You don’t have to do much here, just be and become part of this little gem.
