Choose one of the popular restaurants in the area for dinner. We overnight at De Noordhoek Lifestyle Hotel (or similar). Driving to the Addo National Park, we stop over at the ‘highest recognised bungee from a bridge’ in the world, the Bloukrans Bridge Bungee Jump. We look out for Humpback Whales at Nelson Mandela Bay. (Lunch en-route) A whale watching tour can be arranged if whales are present at the time (July - October) for your own cost at Algoa Bay. From here we go to the Addo National Park where we will have dinner at their restaurant, and a night game drive. Wild Coast adventure with traditional Xhosa hospitality. The Wild Coast is a stunning section of Eastern Cape coastline stretching from East London in the south to the border of KwaZulu-Natal in the north. It is the home of the Xhosa people and incorporates estuaries, sandy beaches, natural heritage sites, craggy cliffs, waterfalls, and rolling hills, providing spectacular scenery and real authentic traditional experiences. Day 5: We leave the Addo National Park (while viewing game) for Port Elizabeth. We head North from Port Elizabeth (Nelson Mandela Bay) to the spectacular Wild Coast along the roads of the Transkei, and see how the Xhosa people still live in their traditional rondawel huts, with farm animals grazing by the side of the road against the backdrop of the Drakensberg in the distance! Our first stop is at the majestic Bawa Falls, with a single drop of 103 meters (338 feet). It was here at “Execution Rock” where witches were executed by throwing them off the cliff. We visit the Nelson Mandela Museum at Qunu and then veer off the N2 to “The Hole in the Wall”, one of South Africa's most famous tourist attractions. (Lunch en-route not included) The locals call this "izi Khaleni" which means place of thunder. During certain seasons and water conditions, the waves clap in such a way that the concussion can be heard throughout the valley. If you want to have a real authentic traditional experience, sleep in a rural rondawel (hut) of a traditional Xhosa village if available at the time. You also have the choice to stay at the Hole-in-the-Wall Hotel. Day 6: After visiting some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the world, we drive to the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, which lies snugly at the head of a spectacular river gorge lined with dense coastal bush and forests. (Lunch en-route not included.) The breath-taking scenery along the Umzimkulwana river gorge makes this a photographer’s and nature lover’s paradise. We stay here for the night. Day 7: The Hibiscus coast with its inviting stretch of Indian Ocean which sometimes presents the year-round delights of frolicking dolphins and majestic, cruising whales, provide the spectacular scenery for the drive to Durban. Kwazulu-Natal Drakensberg, Battlefields Route & Midlands Meander. A barrier of upward-pointing spears for the Zulu name “Quathlamba”, describes the craggy pinnacles that form the most spectacular part of the Great Escarpment of Southern Africa’s major watershed. Discover sites where ferocious wars took place with knowledgeable Guides, see the magnificent mountains and the beautiful Midlands Meander. Leaving from Durban, we head to Howick to visit the Mandela Monument. From here we take the road North on the Midlands Meander and visit Tsonga shoes and bags, Marrakesh Cheese and Chocolate Heaven and savour lunch at one of the delightful restaurants on the way. (Bierfassl) We also visit the Wine Cellar and Mouse Trap Deli. After visiting Drakensberg Bee Products at Scrumpy Jacks, we select some of the many activities to do at the Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort, where we also stay for the night (or similar). Day 8: Breakfast is followed by a tour of the Dragon Rock Reptile Centre or watch as magnificent raptors perform in the skies above the Majestic Drakensberg Mountains, at Falcon Ridge. You also have the option for a helicopter flight over the main escarpment. (own cost) We head out to do the Drakensberg Canopy Tour and then attend a Drakensberg Boys Choir concert. We spend the night at the Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort (or similar). Dinner at a restaurant not included. Day 9: We head to Dundee to have a tour of the battlefields and historical sites of Blood River/Ncome/Napoleon Prince Imperial/Talana. “By 1836 relations between the British rulers in the Cape and the Dutch settlers had reached an all- time low. They decided to pack-up their worldly goods load them onto covered wagons and head into the largely unknown interior of South Africa. Thus began in 1836 the exodus that would be recorded by history as ‘The Great Trek’! The north, west and eastward movement of this exodus of Trekkers, who became known as Voortrekkers inevitably led to conflict with the indigenous peoples who inhabited the hinterland. Trek leader Piet Retief and his party were killed at King Dingane’s capital of Mgungundlovu in February 1838…”, and see where brutal battles took place. We spend the night at the Royal Country Inn. (or similar) Day 10: Heading on our way to Mpumalanga, we visit O'Neil's Cottage on the road between Newcastle and Volksrust. The home of Eugene O'Neil became a makeshift hospital for British after defeating at Majuba. The peace treaty ending the war was negotiated here. Panorama/Kruger Park/Swaziland Tour This Tour is an excellent choice for people who want to enjoy spectacular scenery, combined with game drives to see the renowned big five (elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard and buffalo). It traverses into Swaziland after 5 days to showcase the best there is to offer. We drive through some of the most scenic areas of the Eastern part of South Africa. The Highveld town of Dullstroom hosts Anvil Brewery, where you can enjoy local beer and dishes such as smoked trout for lunch. From here we descend into the Lowveld en route to the historic town of Pilgrim’s Rest. The entire town of Pilgrim's Rest was declared a National Monument in 1986 as a living memory of the early gold rush days in South Africa during the late 1800s / early 1900s, then to view Pinnacle Rock and to experience the amazing view from God’s Window. We then visit the Berlin Falls, where numerous local arts and crafts are for sale. From here we visit Bourke’s Luck Potholes for lunch and then overnight at the resort: Forever Blyde Canyon (or similar). Day 11: We go to visit Kinyonga Reptile Centre near the town of Hoedspruit after breakfast, and then traverse s to the famous Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre for a tour and lunch at the Curio Shop and Deli. Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre follows for another wildlife tour, where we also stay for the night (or similar). Day 12: We leave after breakfast to take a boat trip on the Blyde Dam. An interpretation tour will take us to the Kadishi Tufa waterfall and the Three Rondawels. An abundance of wildlife will keep you distracted while learning more about the natural history of the Blyde Canyon. The Kadishi Tufa waterfall, at 200 meters (around 660 feet) in height , is the second tallest tufa waterfall on earth. The waterfall’s formation strikingly resembles a face which is crying profusely, and is thus sometimes known as ‘the weeping face of nature’. Completing this we head to the Mopani Rest Camp via Phalaborwa gate at the Kruger Park for more game viewing. After enjoying a game drive to a bush braai (bbq) or a night game drive, we spend the night here (or similar). No children under 6 allowed on the night game drive to a bush braai (bbq). It is also a showroom full of beautifully crafted glass ornaments and houses a number of other smaller craft outlets. We also have a traditional lunch here, and drive to the Hlane Royal National Park for the night. Dinner can be enjoyed at Ndlovu Camp’s large restaurant.
